Does your weight affect your onsite duties?
If your weight is over 120 kilograms, there are many pieces of equipment that you will not be able to use on some sites. This includes common tools such as ladders and mobile steps, but often even the seating in plant and other equipment. Even with a less-common higher rating of 140 or 150 kilograms max available on some contracting and mine sites, you may still be restricted from using some plant and other equipment.
But it’s not just work – your weight will affect other areas of your life, creating problems such as; arthritis of the knees, hips and back pain and restricted mobility. Being overweight makes you more likely to develop more significant health problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease – all these can greatly affect your future health.
Maintaining a healthy weight increases the longevity of your working career, raises your quality of life and sets you up for a happier, healthier future.
Want to lose weight?
Reduce the amount of the calories you eat and drink – e.g. fried and fatty foods (be aware of your food choices out at camp); and alcohol – particularly high-calorie beers.
