Here in Australia, sunburn can happen after as little as ten minutes spent in the sun unprotected and, according to the Cancer Council, at least 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer before the age of 70. When you are outside on-site for work, it is important to take precautions to protect your skin and your health!
Do you spend all day in the sun? Always wear a hat which also covers your neck, use sunscreen and clothing which covers as much skin as possible and sunglasses to protect your eyes against UV radiation.
Signs of skin cancer to look out for:
- a spot that is different from other spots on the skin
- a spot, mole or freckle that has changed in size, shape or colour
- a sore that doesn’t heal
- a spot that bleeds
If you are unsure – get it checked!
